Southwest Ontario

After spending another night in Sault Ste. Marie close to the river, it was time to continue our eastward journey, this time we are heading toward Manitoulin Island.

We choose to take the side road along the lake at this point where we came across Echo Bay which was about 30km/20 miles east of Sault Ste. Marie and found a large Canadian Dollar coin (Loonie). This town is the home of the coin’s designer.

We continued until we arrived at Bruce Mines, this is a small town located on the shores of Lake Huron. We liked this small town and decided to stay here for a couple of nights.

Next stop was Manitoulin Island, arriving at Little current. Came across a brewery on our way to our camp spot for the night called Manitoulin Brewing Company so stopped in to sample a beer.

We like their beer, we purchased a couple of cans to go, to enjoy after dinner. From here it was off to our night spot located near the marina.

After spending the night here, we set off to explore more of the Island. Heading east along the northern highway we ended up stopping in Gore Bay where we found a spot at the edge of town across from a brewery where they allow you to stay the night.

We managed to get the premier spot next to the Bay before the crowd arrived.

We strolled around town, picked up some groceries then headed to the brewery which is called ‘Split Rail Brewing Company’ to sample their wares.

We had a nice sunset and the next morning the day started out well.

From we continued west to the end of the Barrie Island, most of this road was gravel.

After spending a hour or so in the area we travelled to Providence Bay.

Providence Bay is quite the tourist spot for Ontarians.

We left here and headed to M’Chigeeng where we would spend the night in a small campground. We also had another nice sunset.
