We left Parksville/Nanoose Bay area and headed south down the Island to Sydney where we would catch the ferry to Anacortes, then continue on to Seattle for a couple of weeks.

The water was really calm for the crossing to Anacortes.
The Ferry stopped at Friday Harbour to unload and load passengers, it was a busy place for the beginning of October.
Once we settled into our accommodation, we started to take days trips and explore the area around Seattle. First up was the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks on the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
While we were here the locks were in constant use with small and large vessels alike.
Did you notice the drawbridge was open to allow the barge and it’s Tug to pass, it had no sooner closed when a train crossed it. There is lots of coordination required for all these moving parts to work in harmony.
On the far side of the locks there was a Fish Ladder, this is to allow the salmon to swim back up river in spawning season.
After spending a couple of hours at the locks it was time to find a sot for a refreshment and a bite to eat. We found a nice location on the waterfront just up the coast from the locks.
Another day we wondered down to the waterfront in downtown Seattle.
We also visited Pike’s Street Market; this is the area of the original Starbucks coffee shop.
We also visited Chinatown for one of our day trips.
This is the second tribute to Sun-Yat Sen we have seen, the first was in Penang, Malaysia last summer. He fought for China’s freedom from colonial powers and achieved it, only for the Communist Revolution to take away the peoples freedom not too many years later.
After being here for a couple of weeks it was time to return to Alberta. It took us two days to return, we stopped for a night in Cranbrook and stayed at End of the Road Bed and Breakfast. This was a very nice place located outside of the downtown core but only a five-minute drive to downtown.
When we hit the BC-Alberta border there was lots of snow in the mountains.
As the sun sets on the Calgary skyline it is time for us to go to warmer climes for the winter.
