We left Portland in rush-hour heading west toward Seaside, OR. We stayed a night at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park which is about 10 miles (16km) off the main highway to the coast.
Next morning, on the way to Seaside we stopped at the Wines of Oregon store where we purchase a very nice red (Obsidian red blend) and a Pinot Gris which we enjoyed later with friends in Canada. We drove into Seaside and had lunch and walked the promenade, this is the end of the Lewis & Clark Trial which we had been crisscrossing since entering the USA. So many changes since our last visit to the west coast by vehicle.
From here we went up to Astoria, OR and after taking a walk around town and picking up groceries drove across the bridge to Long Beach, WA.:
We found a campsite (Andersen’s Beach Resort) which had a cancelation, just as we arrived, so they had spot open for the next three nights as it was Memorial Day long weekend for the Americans, it was a bit pricey for us ($50US per night), but considering we would not be leaving, just taking long walks on the beach, having happy hour with our neighbors and nice dinners all was good.
After the weekend, we continued north up HWY-101 until we found Kalaloch State Park campground where we found a spot where we could back right up to the beach with a nice view from our rear dinette. We collected some wood and had a nice fire after dinner while enjoying a glass of wine.
From Kalaloch we took a steady slow drive along HWY-101 which had lots of slow corners where we had to reduce our speed.
