Moab – Arches NP

After spending the night in Gallup, NM we set off towards MOAB in Utah. We were not sure where we would spend the night but set off anyway. When we arrived back in Cortez mid afternoon needed diesel, from here we decided we would take the longer route through San Juan National Forest. On the way to Telluride we were at elevation up to 10,222ft/3116M, this is our new elevation record of our journey. The last record being when we visited the Observatorio Astronomico at Sierra de San Pedro Martir National Park in Baja California, Mexico which was at 2820M/9250ft.

We eventually arrived in Moab around 6pm, we decided it would be a good idea to have dinner in town then go find a campsite. We took a drive through town to see what the options before settling on Desert Bistro located just off the main drag on N100W. One of the waiters here recommended Sand Flats Recreational Area just on the north side of town. When we arrived here around 9:30pm all the spots had been taken so we ended up in the overflow area with four other vehicles for the night.

Next morning after breakfast we left Sand Flats RA but stopped and paid for a second night here then decided to visit Arches National Park, calling at the visitor’s center on the way into the park.

Looking back at Moab.

Information Center at Arches NP.The scenery was similar to what we had been seeing since to left Monument Valley but the Arches were quite spectacular.

We stopped at various view points as we drove through the park.

We returned to Moab, stocked up on groceries and returned to the campsite for the night. While parked near the supermarket we were approached by Elwyn and Meghan who had seen our camper parked on the street in their rear-view mirror and waited around to talk with us about the camper, they wanted to have a look inside as they had been following some of the builds that Overland Explorer Vehicles had been building over the last year or so, an hour and half later we went and found a nice campsite.

Next day we decided to stay another night and have and easy day and just stay around the campsite, going for a bike ride and catching up on the blog.
